Day 4 – Delhi (B / L / SD)
After breakfast, take a city tour of New Delhi, the capital city of India which was built by the British in 1911. This is a striking modern metropolis that blends internationalism and tradition with many interesting museums and art galleries. A gracious contrast to Old Delhi’s winding streets. The grand avenues and stately buildings of New Delhi are rich with history and culture.
Your day will begin with a visit to The Qutab Minar Tower which forms part of the Qutab complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Mehrauli area. This is a 73-metre tall tapering tower of five stories that contains a spiral staircase of 379 steps. Then we will go to Birla Mandir which is a magnificent Hindu temple or Mandir built in white marble and sandstone by the Birla family. After lunch enjoy a tour of the President’s Palace, the India Gate and the Parliament Building. At the end of the day head back to your hotel for a Welcome Dinner that will include a glass of Indian wine or Indian beer
Day 5 – Delhi (B / LS / D)
This morning, visit Mahatma Gandhi’s House (Closed on Monday) and the memorial dedicated to him on the banks of the Yamuna River called Raj Ghat. Then explore the famous “Old Delhi” a walled city founded in 1638 and then drive by (and get a photo op) of the historic Red Fort, the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal dynasty for nearly 200 years, until 1857. After that we will take Rickshaw Ride to the Chandni Chowk or Moonlight Square, one of the oldest and busiest markets in Old Delhi built in the 17th century by the Mughal Emperor of India Shah Jahan. And just before noon we will visit the largest Muslim mosque in India, Jama Masjid. For lunch you will be treated to Kashmiri Food.
In the afternoon we will visit Gurudwara Bangla Sahib which is one of the most prominent Sikh houses of worship built in 1783 and known for its association with the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, as well as the pool inside its complex, known as the “Sarovar.” It ranked No 1 among the best tourist and pilgrimage spot in Delhi (SURVEY-2017). Here you will be able to help out in the making of an unleavened flatbread from the Indian Subcontinent named Chapatti or Roti. This bread is made of whole wheat flour known as Atta, salt and water, and cooked on a tava (flat skillet). You will also help with the stirring of vast pots of dal (lentil curry). A truly humbling experience.
Day 6 – Delhi ~ Jaipur ( B / L / SD )
After breakfast we will drive to the Pink City of India, Jaipur (approx 4 hrs). After lunch visit the Wood Block Printing Textile Emporium where we will learn about the process of printing patterns on textiles, usually of linen, cotton or silk, by means of incised wooden blocks. It is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing.
In the evening we will go for a walking tour of the old city market famous for its glass bangles. Enjoy Special Dinner with Traditional Cultural Dance.
Hotel: Jaipur Hilton Hotel (5-Star)
Day 7 – Jaipur (B / L / SD)
On this day we will travel to a magnificent fort divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyard and that comprises an extensive palace complex, built from pale yellow and pink sandstone, and white marble called Amber Fort. Once here we will enjoy an Elephant ride to the top of the fortress. Then we will make a photo stop at Jaipur’s most distinctive landmark, the Hawa Mahal (a place of winds). This is an extraordinary pink-painted delicately honeycombed hive with 953 windows and niches that rises a dizzying five stories. It was constructed in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh to enable ladies of the royal household to watch the life and processions of the city. At lunch time you will be treated to a demonstration of the art of Turban Tying. In the Afternoon enjoy the visit to one of the most hospitable cities on the planet. A place full of warmth and charm called “Pink City”, and then we will stop at a site that consists of 13 gigantic architectural astronomy instruments built around 1723 named Jantar Mantar. In the evening we will have dinner with a Local Family and discover some of the secrets of Indian cooking.
Day 8 – Jaipur ~ Fatehpur Sikri ~ Agra (B / L / D)
Today we depart Jaipur and start our journey north to the city of Agra (approx 6 hrs), but just before we arrive at our destination we will stop at a small city with red sandstone buildings and Persian principles founded by a 16th century Mughal emperor called Fatehpur Sikri (or Ghost City). This place was the capital of the Mughal Empire between 1570 and 1586. Emperor Akbar built the city to celebrate the birth of a heir (the future Emperor Jehangir), but the Imperial complex was abandoned in 1585, shortly after its completion, due to the exhaustion of the small, spring-fed lake that supplied the city with water, and its proximity with the Rajputana, with which the Mughal Empire was often at war. Check into your hotel upon our arrival in Agra. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Hotel: Agra Sarovar Crystal Hotel (5-Star)
Day 9 – Agra ( Taj Mahal ) (B / L / D)
Today we will start our day at sunrise, so we can have an early visit to the most famous UNESCO World Heritage Site in India known as The Taj Mahal. This is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the south bank of the Yamuna River that took 17 years to be built. It was commissioned in 1632 by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Later in the day we will go to a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as The Agra Fort which was the main residence of the emperors of the Mughal Dynasty till 1638, when the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi.
At the end of the day we will enjoy the Sun Set on The Taj Mahal from Mehtab Bagh – a garden complex, square in shape, and that measures about 300 by 300 meters and that is perfectly aligned on the other side of the Yamuna river with the Taj Mahal. In the evening enjoy the amazing Mohabbat-e-Taj Show that depicts the romantic love story of Emperor Shajahan and his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal.
Day 10 – Agra ~ Delhi (B / L / SD)
Enjoy the morning at your leisure and at noon we will start our journey back to Delhi (approx 4hrs) by traveling on one of India’s longest six-lane controlled-access expressway stretches known as The Yamuna Expressway.
