Itinerary
Note: Day tours and visits not included, just where you stay each night is set but hotels are subject to change based on availability. Distances shown include visits as described, but you are able to adjust the itinerary to better suit what you want to see along the way.
Day 1: Depart Canada Board your flight to Reykjavik
Day 2: Welcome to Reykjavik Upon arrival, pick up your rental car at the airport and make your way to your selected accommodation (approx. 50 km). Hotel: Fosshotel Baron or upgrade to Superior Icelandair Hotel Marina or similar (1 night)
Day 3: Reykjavik – Akureyri (B) Drive towards Borgarfjordur, pass splendid waterfalls and stop at Iceland’s largest hot springs. Drive north through Skagafjordur to admire the region’s famous Icelandic horses. YVisit the museum at Glaumbær ($) and finish your day in Akureyri. (approx. 420 km). Hotel: Hotel Natur or upgrade to Superior Icelandair Hotel Akureyr or similar (1 night)
Day 4: Akureyri – Lake Myvatn – Akureyri (B) Today, explore the marvels of Lake Myvatn Nature Reserve. Where you can visit the mud pools and steam vents of Namaskard. Walk up to the top of Hverfjall crater, and take a dip in the geothermal waters east of the lake. Return to Akureyri for the night. (approx. 250 kms)
Day 5: Akureyri – Asbyrgi – Egilsstadir (B) Head to the charming fishing village of Husavik, then drive along the coastline of the Tjornes peninsula and stop at Asbyrgi glacier canyon. Continue on to Egilsstadir passing through the Moorudalur highlands. Stay overnight in the Egilsstadir area. (approx. 340 km) Hotel: Hotel Eyvindara or upgrade to Superior Icelandair Hotel Herad or similar (1 night)
Day 6: Egilsstadir – The East Fjords – Hofn (B) Discover Iceland’s East Fjords. Drive through the Almannaskard tunnel and arrive in the Hofn region for the night.(approx. 270 km) Hotel: Hotel Jokull or upgrade to Superior Fosshotel Vatnajokull or similar (1 night)
Day 7: Hofn – Skaftafell National Park – Vik (B) Today, head towards Iceland’s stunning Skaftafell National Park, then continue to the Vik area. (approx. 272 km) Hotel: Hotel Katla or upgrade to Superior Hotel Vik or similar (1 night)
Day 8: Vik – The Golden Circle – Reykjavik (B) Travel The Golden Circle. Start your day with some stunning waterfalls, then head to the famous geothermal area of Geysir. Don’t miss Gullfoss, the most famous falls in the country. In Thingvellir, see the effects of the tectonic plates on the earth’s crust. Then on to Reykjavik. (approx. 300 km) Hotel: Fosshotel Baron or upgrade to Superior Icelandair Hotel Marina or similar (1 night)
Day 9: Reykjavik – Return to Canada (B) Drop off your rental car at the airport and board your flight home.

CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) CDW does not cover damage to the underside of the vehicle, damage due to driving through rivers or any kind of water, it does not cover damage due to driving through sandstorm or damage which is caused by loose rocks which get thrown at the car on gravel roads. It is a condition of all Icelandic car insurances that the driver is always responsible for such damage.
