Begin your Greek journey in Athens, where contemporary city life meets ancient civilizations. To see Athens’ most legendary ruins and structures, head to Vasilissis Amalias Street for the archaeological walk, which will introduce you to the Parthenon, Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Ancient Agora, and many more. Fuel up after your exploring at Central Market, where you can find a tasty selection of Greek cheeses, nuts, olives, and breads.
Next, voyage to Santorini, and make sure your camera is close by – the picturesque island is postcard-perfect. Hop in a cable car or ride atop a donkey to catch a stunning sunset view before grabbing a bite in a local taverna during your late-night stay. Cruise on to Rhodes, one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval cities, where you’ll be charmed by cobblestone streets and turreted buildings. During a late-night stay, you’ll be able to linger over dinner and try some of the local delicacies, like pitaroudia, a crispy chickpea dumpling. Next, a journey to the island of Kos gives you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors: get up close and personal with flora and fauna at the lush Plaka Forest, or relax on one of the stunning white-sand beaches.
The next stop is Ephesus, a fascinating city that was once as powerful as Rome, where another late stay gives you ample time to discover the Temple of Artemis, tour the House of the Virgin Mary, and see the Cathedral of Saint John. Your next destination is Patmos, a sacred island where Saint John wrote the Book of Revelation. Today, the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian still stands guard over Patmos. Take advantage of a late-night stay to enjoy a sunset picnic feast of local treats like grilled octopus and fresh breads and cheeses.
Next, cruise to Mykonos, where spotless white buildings are silhouetted against a brilliant blue harbor and bright turquoise sky. Known for its party atmosphere, Mykonos is also packed with shops, galleries, and eateries, so take your time strolling the winding streets, sipping ouzo, and choosing the perfect souvenir to bring home. Your voyage concludes back in Athens, where you can wrap up your Greek adventure with the modern or the mythical – or perhaps a bit of both.
