24 September – Arrive in Cape Town. On arrival you’ll transfer by luxury vehicle to the extraordinary Silo Hotel. Your briefing on your epic journey is done on the Silo rooftop, sipping cocktails while enjoying spectacular views overlooking Table Mountain. 25 September – Explore Cape Town. This morning a scenic helicopter flight, over the Atlantic Seaboard, sets the standard for the day. Lunch is specially prepared for you at Crofter’s Kitchen in Chef Nicky Gibb’s private home. 26 September – Visit to Matjiesfontein. You’ll be transferred to Cape Town station where you will board ‘The Pride of Africa’ at 11am. At 6pm you’ll arrive in Matjiesfontein and explore the quaint village.

27 September – Kimberley’s Big Hole and Diamond Mine museum. Today you will tour Kimberley’s Big Hole and Diamond mine museum and visit the site. Ten minutes after departing Kimberley, a shallow lake appears on the left-hand side of the train where, on most occasions, there are spectacular flocks of Lesser Flamingos. Travel from the Karoo to the Highveld.

28 September – Pretoria. At 10am you will arrive at Rovos Rail Station in Capital Park, Pretoria. Enjoy a walking tour of the station and locomotive workshops (weather permitting) followed by lunch on the platform and a city tour of Pretoria. Afterwards the train departs for Zeerust in the North West Province.

TAU GAME LODGE, MADIKWE GAME RESERVE
29 and 30 September – Tau Game Lodge. For the next two nights you will stay at Tau, a luxury safari lodge in the Madikwe Game reserve. The lodge was designed to reflect the natural surrounds and makes use of natural resources wherever possible. Madikwe is the fourth largest reserve in South Africa. It’s diverse habitat in the reserve, from acacia, savanna to riverine, ensures a unique combination of species such as springbok, gemsbok, sable and impala. The birdlife is also spectacular as too are predators such as wild dog, cheetah and lion. White and black rhino, buffalo and elephant are also found here.

05 October to 09 October – Experience days at leisure on the train as you travel through Zambia and Tanzania and descend into the Rift Valley. The onboard historian will entertain and enlighten you. 10 October – Arrive Nairobi. Today you disembark in Dar es Salaam. You will be transferred to the airport for your private charter flight to Nairobi. Tonight you will stay at Hemingways, considered the best luxury hotel in Nairobi. BDF
11 October to 13 October – Cottars 1920’s camp. The next three days you will experience the best that Africa has to offer. You ill soar above the Masai Mara in a hot-air balloon, followed by a champagne breakfast in the bush. You will experience day and night game-drives with your professional guide. Bush walks are on offer too. You will have a cultural visit to a local Masai village and perhaps enjoy a spa treatment.

15 October – Kigali City Tour and Genocide memorial. Your tour today gives you great insight into Rwanda’s history, and just how far it has developed. You will also visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which, through education and peace-building, honours the memory of the more than one million Rwandans killed in 1994. You will drive to your Singita Kwitonda Lodge on the border of Volcanoes National Park where the rest of your day is at leisure.

16 October – Gorilla trekking. Singita Kwitonda Lodge provides a contemplative, nurturing space in which to appreciate the transformative experience of coming face to face with the forest’s gentle giants. You’ll set off early in the morning for a briefing at Volcanoes National Park’s headquarters where you’ll be matched with a guide. The distance of each gorilla trek is varied, so depending on which family group guests are allocated, the duration is anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day.

17 October – Kigali to Addis Ababa. Today you’ll drive back to Kigali for lunch, and then continue to the airport for your flight to Addis Ababa.

18 October – Rock-hewn churches. After breakfast you’ll fly to Lalibela, where over the course of the day you’ll visit the extraordinary man-made rock-hewn churches. 20 October. This morning is at leisure to enjoy the magnificent Mena House. In the afternoon you’ll have a private guided tour of the new Grand Egyptian museum (subject to official opening date). 21 and 22 October – Exploring Cairo. The next two days are spent exploring Cairo with your own qualified Egyptologist. You will visit the pyramids and the Sphinx and you have the option to enter the Grand Pyramid. Discover the ancient cities of Memphis and Sakkara, which is dominated by the famous step pyramid of King Zoser. Your sight-seeing includes the Egyptian museum, the Citadel and the mosque of Sultan Hassan. Your last afternoon finishes at the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. Tonight there is a special farewell dinner.
23 October – Depart Cairo with a lifetime of memories. After breakfast you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.

SOUTH AFRICA: Canadians do not need a tourist visa to enter South Africa. However, upon arrival, immigration officials will issue a temporary residents visa (TRV) for up to 90 days. Check the expiry date of your TRV to ensure you don’t overstay.
BOTSWANA: Tourist visa: Not required for stays up to 90 days
ZAMBIA: Zambian entry visas can be obtained online through the Zambian Immigration portal. You can also obtain a single- or double-entry tourist visa on arrival in Zambia, payable in U.S. dollars. Check with the Zambia Department of Immigration for more details on Zambian visas and employment.
RWANDA: Canadians must be in possession of a visa to visit Rwanda. Citizens of all countries get 30 days visa upon arrival, without prior application.
ETHIOPIA: Canadians must have a valid visa to enter the country. You may obtain a visa online or on arrival at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. This is subject to change without warning. EGYPT: Canadians must be in possession of a visa to visit Egypt. Although a tourist visa to Egypt can be obtained at Egyptian airports for 25 USD for single entry, or 60 USD for multiple entry (the fee is subject to change at any time by the Egyptian authorities), it is advisable to obtain a visa to Egypt from the nearest Egyptian Embassy or consulate prior to arrival. You may also apply for a tourist visa online through the website visa2egypt.gov.eg. There are other websites purporting to offer electronic visas, some of which reportedly charge double the official price, but the link above is the only official Government of Egypt portal for this service.

TANZANIA: Canadian passport holders are required to obtain a visa prior to departure, applied through the Consulate in Ottawa. Approx. fee of C$80pp Subject to change.
A Kenya visa is required for this tour and must be obtained in advance. To apply for your visa in advance, please go to www.ecitizen.go.ke to submit an application and register yourself as a visitor. You will need a scanned copy of your passport as well as a passport photo to apply for the visa. Please allow for ample time as it may take up to a week or more to process. Bring a printed copy of your visa to present upon arrival in Kenya.
