Day 1 – Arrive Nairobi
On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, you will be met and assisted by a Goway representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure.
Why not take in an optional excursion, a visit to the Daphne Sheldrake Orphanage, Giraffe Manor or Karen Blixen museum.
Accommodation: Nairobi Serena Hotel (or similar)

Day 2 – Samburu National Reserve
After breakfast, you will drive north via Nanyuki and Mt Kenya to the Samburu National Reserve. Rugged and remote, this wildlife reserve provides some the best and most colorful game viewing in the country. You will stop for lunch en-route at either Lilly Pond or Trout tree. Enjoy an afternoon game drive as you make your way to your lodge.

Day 3 – Samburu National Reserve
You will spend the day in the Samburu National Reserve with morning and afternoon game drives in search of the plentiful wildlife the park has to offer.

Day 4 – Mount Kenya National Park
After breakfast you will drive to your lodge situated at the foot of Mt Kenya, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon may be spent at leisure viewing game from the lodge’s terrace.

Day 5 – Lake Nakuru National Park and Lake Elementaita
This morning you will drive to Lake Nakuru National Park, famous as the home to thousands of lesser and greater flamingo. This park also provides sanctuary for Rothschild Giraffe, rhino and leopard. Enjoy lunch at the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge. After lunch you will proceed on a game drive before proceeding to Lake Elmentaita.

Day 6 – Masai Mara National Reserve
Drive to the Masai Mara National Reserve offering wonderful scenery and plenty of game. It is perhaps the only region left in Kenya where the visitor may see animals in the same super-abundance as existed a century ago. A Lunch stop is made at Sarova Mara Camp. This afternoon you will visit a traditional Masai Village and get to learn about their culture.

Day 7 – Masai Mara National Game Reserve
An early wake-up call this morning before you embark on a game drive and later proceed to the appointed site for Hippo pool breakfast. The rest of the morning is at leisure followed by lunch at your lodge. In the afternoon experience another game drive in the Masai Mara National Park.

Day 8 – Depart Masai Mara
After breakfast you will be driven to Nairobi, Kenya’s colorful capital city. You will be transferred to your hotel or or Jomo Kenyatta Airport for your onward flight. Goway’s local representative will reconfirm your onward flight, and assist you at check-in.

Day 8 continued – Arrive Kigali
On arrival you will be met and transferred to Ruhengeri via a Kigali City Tour and Genocide Museum Visit.

The Kigali City Tour offers you an in-depth view of Kigali, past and present, bringing you the genuine heartbeat of the city. The city, which is inhabited by one million people, is divided into three districts, Gasabo, Kicukiro and Nyarugenge. Founded in 1907 as a German settlement, Kigali did not become the capital until Rwanda’s independence in 1962 when it replaced the colonial seat of power in Butare. The Kigali City Tour begins as a historic journey through the city with a guided tour from the first modern building from which the capital city was first founded, to the rapidly growing neighbourhood’s that are changing the face of the city.

The Genocide Memorial site is a grim reminder of the senseless massacre of innocent’s lives in 1994. The memorial is the final resting places for more than 250 000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi, a place for remembrance and learning. The Memorial also sheds light on other massacres including Cambodia, the Balkans and the Holocaust. Rwanda’s recovery, growth and development is incredible, a true testament to humankind’s resilience.

After your tour you will be dropped off at the lodge of your choice.

Day 9 – Gorilla Trek
On this day you will depart on you Mountain Gorilla Trekking.

A real lifetime experience! Report time at park Head Quarters is 7.00am. There are a total of 80 gorilla permits available each day with a maximum of 8 trekkers visiting any one group. You will be divided into groups according to your level of fitness and allocated a Gorilla family based on their location the previous evening. Each group’s Lead Guide briefs the trekkers of the trekking procedures as well as the “do’s and don’ts” while in the presence of gorillas. After the briefing, trekkers return to their respective vehicles for the drive up the mountain to the starting point. Trekking can take from two to six or more hours if the gorillas depending on the gorilla’s movements.

After your trek you will freshen up and depart back to Kigali where you will spend the night at a hotel of your choice.

Day 10 – Depart Kigali

Today after breakfast, you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Kigali airport for your flight out as booked by you.

Visas – Canadians must be in possession of a visa to transit through, visit or work in Kenya. You should obtain a visa in advance through the High Commission for the Republic of Kenya or via the Kenyan Department of Immigration Services’ eVisa website. Unofficial websites also offer visas but typically charge an additional service fee that is significantly higher than the cost of the actual visa. Regular Canadian passport – Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date you expect to leave Rwanda.
Visas – Canadians must be in possession of a visa to visit Rwanda. Citizens of all countries get 30 days visa upon arrival, without prior application. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days after entering Rwanda, you must seek an extension before the expiry of the entry visa. Applications must be made in person at the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration in Kacyiru, Kigali. Anyone who overstays their visa is subject to a fine. You can also apply for a tourist visa at the nearest Rwandan diplomatic mission or at the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration in Kigali.

Health *When travelling outside Canada, you may be at risk for a number of vaccine preventable illnesses. You should consult a health care provider or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel.  Due to limited supply of selected vaccines,  consider visiting earlier.  Some countries require proof of immunization in order to enter. It is prudent to assess your personal health status with a travel clinic or your family doctor before booking vacation, some immunizations have restrictions.

Maximum baggage allowance is 15kg in soft bags only.

Gorilla permits are limited so book early.  All gorilla permits need to be purchased at time of booking in addition to the regular deposit requirement.  Permit prices are government regulated and subject to change without notice.
