A Greek Grand Tour

Discover all that’s great about Greece in a week. Ancient Greek history will come to life and you’ll have the chance to relax on blissful beaches and discover little-known islands such as Milos and Monemvasia.

Departure Dates:

Starting and finishing from Athens, where the old Acropolis citadel towers over Byzantine churches and pop-up warehouse bars, we sail for the largest Ionian Island, Kefalonia. At the pretty port of Argostoli, where mandolin-playing musicians soundtrack streets with traditional kantades songs, there’s the chance to go shopping, lounge on a blissful cove or tour inland vineyards and oak forests. Back on mainland Greece, Katakolon is a gateway to Olympia, where the first Ancient Olympic Games were held in 776 BC. Visit the old, ruined stadium and learn from guides about early events such as the boxing-like pancratium.

Often likened to Gibraltar, the tidal island of Monemvasia is a sheer slab of rock that hosts a Byzantine fort and a red-roofed village that can only be seen from the sea. After exploring, we’ll move on to Milos, a volcanic Cycladic island blessed with brilliant beaches, strange rock formations and a litany of picture-perfect villages. No less photogenic is the mainland town of Nafplio, Greece’s former capital and our penultimate stop, before returning to Athens’ cruise port, Piraeus. Below Nafplio’s towering castle, Venetian houses line narrow lanes as romantic tavernas serve freshly-grilled fish or mezze platters along the waterfront.

Destination Experiences:
Explore the natural wonders of the Drogarati Caves and Lake Melissani, Kefalonia’s largest cave lake. Explore Greece’s renowned ruins on a visit to the ancient site of Olympia and discover the scenic beauty and historic legacy of Epidaurus and Mycenae.

Greek Island Hopping

From the white-washed villages of Santorini to the beaches and cobblestones of Kos, we’ll discover the great variety on offer across six Greek islands. Spend time in glamorous Mykonos and don’t miss the castle, palace and Acropolis in Rhodes.

Departure Dates:

Leaving Athens’ hip restaurants and Acropolis fortress in our wake, we’ll sail to spectacular Santorini. White-washed villages like Oia spill dramatically down clifftops toward the cobalt sea, with hiking trails connecting to ancient thermal baths inland. Moving onto the less-visited Dodecanese archipelago, near Turkey’s coast, we dock next at Rhodes. There’s something for everyone here: beaches fringed by gin-clear water, wooded valleys to stroll and a cobbled old town rich in boutique shops. Nearby Kos has even finer shores, plus an abundance of crags and classic Corinthian columns, while Patmos ranks among the Christian world’s most sacred sites thanks to its Cave of the Apocalypse – where St John of Patmos penned the Book of Revelation around 95 CE.

Pilgrims of a very different kind flock to Mykonos, back in the Cycladic Islands. Hedonistic and party-minded, it’s a glamorous, seductive place with perfect people-watching opportunities – especially amid the labyrinthine, cubist streets of Mykonos Town. Far more rustic is uncrowded Paros, where fertile hills and rural villages tempt walkers, and the seas enable windsurfing and diving. If you’re less activity-minded, marvel at the preserved seaside windmill in capital Parikia. After a full day on the island, we’ll sail back to Athens’ major port, Piraeus.

Destination Experiences:
Hike to Santorini volcano for breath-taking views / Explore one of the most famous villages in Greece – Oia. See the magnificent remains of past civilisations at the Acropolis of Lindos and explore Delos, the mythological birthplace of Apollo.

Voyage Itinerary:
Day 1: Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Day 2: Santorini, Greece
Day 3: Rhodes, Greece
Day 4: Kos, Greece
Day 5: Patmos, Greece
Day 6: Mykonos, Greece

Greece and Turkey’s Ancient Wonders

This exclusive voyage will help you island-hop around smaller, less-trodden Greek isles, visiting the likes of Naxos, Leros and Kalymnos. You’ll have time to go diving in superb spots, sail to a port never visited by an ‘international’ ship and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ephesus.

Departure Dates:

From Piraeus, close to Athens, we’ll set sail for Naxos in the Cyclades, where beautifully rugged mountains peak at 1000-metre-high Mount Zeus and fertile fields tumble down the hillsides. You can stick to the key sights around harbourside Hora, with its web of winding cobblestone streets, Venetian mansions and Apano Kastro (‘upper castle’). Alternatively, head inland to charming villages or make for the sandy stretch of southwest coast. We’ll venture off the beaten track to the Dodecanese and mythical Leros. We will be the first international ship to visit Leros, aside from the local yachts and vessels that dock here. This serene spot brims with historical monuments, so explore the medieval castle and stroll through age-old settlements.

A short island-hop away, an authentic slice of Greece awaits: picture-perfect Kalymnos. Pastel-hued houses cling to the hillside and cobbled streets draped in bougainvillea are dotted with quaint café tables. The area is a hotspot for unique dive sites, so we’ll take full advantage and open our marina for watersports, too. When we reach Turkey, a change of pace in cosmopolitan Bodrum takes us to stunning beaches with sea-view restaurants for people-watching and yacht spotting. Over in Kusadasi, browse colourful boutiques, barter at spice-scented markets and take your pick of eight sun-soaked beaches. Our recommendation is a chance to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ephesus. Stroll down ancient streets and see the city’s ruins, including the Library of Celsus, dating back to 117 AD.

Destination Experiences:
Explore Naxos, a quaint port town filled with whitewashed cubed houses and beautiful Venetian buildings. Golden Horizon is the only ship planned to visit Kalymnos in 2022 – an island renowned for it’s Greek sponge diving. In Kusadasi, revel in the ancient history of Ephesus, an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Voyage Itinerary:
Day 1: Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Day 2: Naxos, Greece
Day 3: Leros, Greece
Day 4: Kalymnos, Greece
Day 5: Bodrum, Turkey
