Volcano Views, Plymouth & Monserrat Volcano Observatory (extra expense)
Experience the incredible Soufrière Hills Volcano on Montserrat from Plymouth port and discover why it is often referred to as the “Pompeii of the Caribbean.” A visit to Montserrat is incomplete without encountering the island’s most captivating natural phenomenon. This marked the beginning of a series of eruptions that unleashed hot gas and rock flows, ultimately burying the once-thriving city of Plymouth. The lives of Montserrat’s 12,000 residents were changed forever. Your journey begins at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory, where you’ll gain invaluable insights into life on an island with an active volcano. Next, you will visit the renowned Buried City. Once the vibrant capital of Montserrat, Plymouth is now shrouded beneath layers of volcanic ash and debris.
