Day 1 Depart Canada
Board your flight to Dublin.
Day 2 Welcome to Dublin
Pick up your car at the airport and make your way to your hotel in Dublin. The remainder of the day can be spent exploring this vibrant capital with its many historic buildings, Georgian streets and colourful gardens. Your first night is spent at a castle hotel in the Dublin area.
Day 3 Galway (B)
Explore some of Dublin’s finest museums and galleries. Visit Dublinia at Christchurch; a spitting image of medieval Dublin. Next, stop by the 16th century Trinity College, founded by Elizabeth 1 and now home to the famous Book of Kells manuscript. Don’t forget about the Guinness Storehouse for a tasting of its world famous ‘black stuff’ before you return to your hotel.
Day 4 Dublin – Galway (B)
Leave Dublin and travel across rich midland pastures. Visit Belvedere House, Gardens and Park—the magnificent early 18th century stately home of Robert Rochfort, Earl of Belvedere. Then, arrive in Galway before continuing on to the Connemara region, famous for its lakes and mountains. Stay at Abbeyglen Castle, which features a panoramic view of Clifden. (Approx 210 km)
Day 5 Connemara Sightseeing (B)
Visit Connemara National Park where ponies and red deer roam freely through 5,000 acres of scenic mountains, bogs and grassland. Visit the magnificent Kylemore Abbey—a neo-gothic mansion sitting against a mountainous backdrop. Take a scenic drive through Leenane where you have an option to take a Killary Fjord boat tour ($). Then, spend another night at Abbeyglen Castle.
Day 6 Connemara – Clare (B)
Leave Clifden and travel south into Clare through the strange landscape of the Burren region or visit the Cliffs of Moher—a spectacular 5-mile-long cliff, which rises almost 200 metres above sea level. Stop in the heritage town of Kilrush before boarding a ferry to Tarbert in north County Kerry (ferry not included). (Approx 205 km)
Day 7 Dingle Peninsula – Sightseeing (B)
Drive around the Dingle Peninsula before arriving in Dunquin on the westernmost tip of the peninsula where you can visit the Blasket Centre. Weather permitting, embark on a 2 to 3-hour boat trip around the nine main Blasket Islands.
Day 8 Limerick – Dublin (B)
Drive to Limerick and explore its history and architecture or purchase some of the splendid crafts on offer. Check out an exhibition of Ireland’s greatest private collections of art and antiquities at the Hunt Museum before leaving, then travel eastwards towards Straffan in County Kildare. Continue through rich pastures before arriving at Barberstown Castle, a 13th century castle where you’ll be staying overnight. (Approx 210 km)
Day 9 Return to Canada (breakfast included)
Return your car to the Dublin airport and board your flight home.
Kilometres are estimated, depending on the routes that drivers decide to navigate (main roads vs. scenic roads).
