Day 1 – Overnight Flight

Day 2 – Nairobi, Kenya – Tour Begins
Arrive in Nairobi for an overnight stay at the Sarova Stanley Hotel, the city’s first luxury hotel.

Day 3 – Nairobi – Aberdare National Park (B/L/D)
Today we set off for the mountainous region of Aberdare National Park. This ecologically diverse area boasts lush valleys and peaks reaching 14,000 feet. Arrive at your hotel situated on the slope of Mweiga Hill overlooking the park. Keep an eye out for the giraffes that welcome you to the lodge. The afternoon is yours enjoy the amenities of the lodge; perhaps you’ll take a nature walk or enjoy a round of golf!

Day 4 – Aberdare National Park-Buffalo Springs Reserve-Shaba National Reserve (B/L/D)
We begin our journey at the Shaba, Samburu and Buffalo Springs reserves, home to some of Africa’s most exotic wildlife including the reticulated giraffe and Grevy’s zebra, two species only found north of the Equator. Arrive at Shaba National Reserve, your home for the next two nights. After lunch, it’s on to Buffalo Springs for a game drive to begin your search for the “Big 5.” Tonight, learn about the culture and traditions of the Samburu – an ethnic group related to the Masai.

Day 5 – Shaba Reserve – Samburu National Reserve – Shaba Reserve (B/L/D)
Bring your camera as you continue searching for the elusive “Big 5” on a morning game drive through the rugged Samburu National Reserve. The striking contrast of sand, sky and bush will leave you breathless. After lunch at the lodge, continue on an afternoon game drive in Shaba. Watch for the spectacular local birds; over 350 species of birds are known to inhabit the reserve. Look for the desert rose plant, splashing colour against its natural surroundings. Your day comes to a close on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River. Sit back and relax as the sun sets on the horizon, partaking in a traditional Sundowner.

Day 6 – Shaba Reserve – Aberdare National Park (B/L/D)
Return to Aberdare for an unforgettable experience in a treetop lodge. This national park received its name from Lord Aberdare, one of the founding members of the Royal Geographical Society. Your lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick which attracts a host of wildlife all night long. Get an up-close look at the wildlife from the four viewing decks that provide an unmatched opportunity for game viewing from the comfort of the lodge. Sit back and let the animals come to you!

Day 7 – Aberdare National Park – Lake Nakuru (B/L/D)
Drive past the mountains via the spectacular Nyahururu waterfalls. Then, make a photo stop at the Equator. Arrive at the floor of the Great Rift Valley and continue your search for the “Big 5” during your time at Lake Nakuru.

Day 8 – Lake Nakuru (B/L/D)
A taste of Africa. After your morning game drive, savour a traditional breakfast in the bush. Then, enjoy some time to relax and enjoy the amenities at the lodge. Your exciting afternoon game drive returns to the lodge before sunset.

Day 9 – Lake Nakuru – Masai Mara Game Reserve (B/L/D)
This morning we travel to the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The Masai Mara – an extension of the great Serengeti Plain – is considered the most stunning game viewing spot in all of Kenya: lions, giraffes, zebras, elephants and other wildlife reside here. Your tent provides all the deluxe amenities of a lodge, complete with the adventure of the wild. Visit a Masai village prior to your game drive. Tonight, enjoy a traditional bush dinner featuring a Masai dance performance.

Day 10 – Masai Mara (B/L/D)
Further enjoy the Masai Mara with both morning and afternoon game drives. Pause along the way to rest and enjoy a picnic lunch. Return to your hotel to catch the sunset.

Day 11 – Masai Mara – Nairobi (B/L)
After breakfast, return to Nairobi and travel to Karen, on the outskirts of Nairobi, and visit the farmhouse of Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa. Experience the local wildlife firsthand as you have the opportunity to feed the endangered Rothschild giraffes from a raised platform at the Giraffe Sanctuary.

Day 12 – Nairobi – Amboseli National Park (B/L/D)
This morning we depart Nairobi for Amboseli National Park, famous for its open plains where lions and elephants roam. The breathtaking snowcapped Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates the landscape. Enjoy an afternoon game drive.

Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
$173 pp – Nairobi – Duration: 5 Hours, Your transportation is included Visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, an internationally renowned orphanage located in Nairobi National Park. Learn about their efforts to protect and rehabilitate elephants who have been orphaned by poachers or have lost their habitat due to human population. You may even choose to foster your own elephant! After lunch, visit Kazuri, which means “small and beautiful” in Swahili. This workshop creates handmade and hand-painted jewellery, ceramic beads and pottery. Please Note: In order to participate in this option, a pre-night is required in Nairobi. Guests who have purchased the Tsavo Pre-Tour Extension will not be able to participate in this option. This option is operated by a local guide. The Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage is open for 1 hour a day (from 11am to 12pm) to allow visitation with the elephants, but to also restrict the amount of human interaction.
