Day 1 – Arrive Munich (D)
Say cheers to Germany’s beer capital and hello to a glorious encounter with the imperial capitals of central Europe. Munich’s church spires tower over the rest of the city, a nod to an age-old policy that places the city’s history and artistry above modernity. Embark on an orientation tour of the city, soaking up its old-world Bavarian charm in the elegant Marienplatz featuring the Old and New Town Halls and the Glockenspiel which shares the stories of a royal wedding, jousting knights and the dance of the coopers. You’ll have the rest of the day free to explore Munich your way, perhaps with a stein in hand amidst the rousing atmosphere in an outdoor Biergarten.

Day 2 – Munich – Regensburg – Prague (B/D)
Your first stop today is in the UNESCO-listed town of Regensburg with its beautifully preserved medieval centre and Gothic Dom which overlooks the town’s historic façades and Danube river. Cross the border into the Czech Republic and arrive in Prague later. The Golden City of a Hundred Spires belongs in a Brothers Grimm fairy tale as you stroll through the illuminated city at night on an Optional Experience. Your introduction to Prague will reveal all the highlights of its Old Town, followed by a drink at a favourite local restaurant celebrating the crisp brews for which Prague is so famous.

Day 3 – Prague Sightseeing and Free Time (B)
Delve into Prague’s history – a city whose enduring beauty spared it from destruction in World War II when the rest of Europe’s capitals lay in ruins. A Local Specialist leads your sightseeing tour featuring Prague Castle, the Cathedral of St. Vitus and the Old Town Square. There’s time later to explore the city on your own, perhaps returning to the Square to watch the clock’s magical hourly Walk of the Apostles with a toasty Trdelník in hand. You could choose to view the city from its water, embarking on an optional lunch cruise along the Vltava that will reveal the legends, myths, culture and hidden secrets of this enchanting city.
Day 4 – Prague – Bratislava – Budapest (B)
We leave the beauty of Prague behind for the lush landscapes of Moravia and pass into Slovakia. Stop in Bratislava to admire its eclectic Gothic, Baroque and Art Deco architecture. Crossing the border into Hungary, we arrive in Budapest, the ‘Paris of the East’. Consider spending the evening on a river cruise along the Danube paired with a dinner of a selection of Hungarian specialties and awe-inspiring views.

Day 5 – Budapest Sightseeing and Free Time (B)
Today you’ll come to grips with the multicultural melting pot that shaped this European crossroads. Delve into its Magyar origins with a Local Specialist, who will share all the sights, including Fisherman’s Bastion, Heroes’ Square and the Church of St. Matthias. Take a trip up Gellért Hill whose Statue of Liberty and symbol of Budapest you can see from almost anywhere in the city. Later today you could choose to join an optional tour to the medieval town of Szentendre, set on the banks of the Danube. An Optional Experience this evening could see you revel in the colourful folklore of the gypsies with a traditional Hungarian dinner and folk music completing the evening.
Day 6 – Budapest – Győr – Vienna (B)
You’ll be grateful for your leisurely start to the day after an evening of lively gypsy music and fun. Let the decadence continue and consider a rich ‘second breakfast’ at Gundels with an optional visit to the Hungarian Parliament, before crossing the hilly Transdanubia region bound for Györ, located midway between Budapest and Vienna. Next stop is the Austrian capital itself where art, architecture and above all music hit all the right notes for an inspiring evening in the former home of the Habsburgs.

Day 7 – Vienna Sightseeing and Free Time (B)
Vienna has held on to her regal roots as you’ll come to discover as you join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour featuring all the highlights, including the Hofburg, State Opera House and City Hall. You’ll have some time to discover why Vienna’s streets are paved with culture or consider a guided visit to Schönbrunn Palace, the former summer residence of the Habsburgs, whose legacy can be seen across their dynastic capital. Day 8 – Vienna – Salzburg (B/D)
Follow the Danube Valley, passing the impressive Benedictine monastery at Melk perched atop its rocky bastion overlooking the river. Continue to Salzburg, whose rich musical heritage is only part of its enduring appeal. Take a stroll through the Mirabell Gardens, where the von Trapp children once sang ‘Do-Re-Mi’ in ‘The Sound of Music’, with a Local Specialist. Then there’s time to embark on your own exploration of this historic city. Wander through the Baroque-filled Old Town to the spiritual heart of Salzburg, the Cathedral where Mozart was baptised, then see his nearby birthplace on Getreidegasse, which has been turned into a museum documenting his life.

Day 9 – Salzburg – Munich (B)
Bavaria beckons once again and you’ll have an opportunity to explore the spectacular alpine region with a choice of Optional Experiences. Embark on a scenic tour of the Bavarian Alps to Berchtesgaden, ascending over 1,500 metres along one of the most beautiful mountain roads in Europe, or visit Hitler’s retreat at Eagle’s Nest and learn about its infamous history as you admire the soul-stirring views that surround you. Later you’ll return to Munich, driving past its 1970s Olympic Stadium before reaching your hotel. Option #2 Szentendre And Light Lunch Explore more of Hungary and follow our guide out of bustling Budapest to the picturesque medieval town of Szentendre, set on the banks of the Danube and awash with ancient walls, cobbled streets and beautiful vistas. Here we’ll enjoy a Goulash cooking demonstration before sampling this essential Hungarian dish during lunch, which also includes cake and drinks. Day 6: Option # 1 Visit To The Hungarian Parliament And Gundel Take a guided tour of this magnificent Gothic Revival building, the most ornate state parliament in Europe. Option #3 Eagle’s Nest Tour And Bavarian Alps In Berchtesgaden National Park drive past farmhouses and picturesque villages as we ascend the Obersalzberg. We transfer to special buses for the second leg of the journey: a spectacular road and great engineering feat blasted out of the mountain side. Finally we take an elevator up to the Eagle’s Nest, intended as a mountain retreat for Hitler and his inner circle.
